The new cable stayed bridge at the source of the Nile in Jinja is a great iconic signature development for tourism in Uganda and trade connections to the neighboring countries like Kenya for export and import. This outstanding architectural structure 8m high and 525m long is not only the longest bridge across a river in East Africa but also means more beauty for Jinja source of the Nile and another gateway to Eastern Uganda. The new bridge named The Source of the Nile Bridge has an overall width of 22.9m, a central span of 290m, end spans of 135m and 100m on the east and west banks respectively. The dual carriageway is 7.0m wide and a pedestrian walk way of 2.25m wide on both ends. The multimillion brand new bridge was designed with a structural life span of 120 years of boosting trade and Uganda tours at this picturesque location of the source of the Nile.
Constructed by Zenitaka Corporation Company, the bridge stands out in beauty and magnificence creating a brightly different skyline in Jinja and more glamour for the source of the world’s longest river-the Nile River. The bridge is set to display a multitude of colors especially the national colors of Black, Yellow and Red, the illumination test was successfully done ahead of official commissioning today 17th October 2018 by president Museveni.
A new bridge at the source of the Nile in Jinja comes as a substitute to the deteriorating Nalubaale dam/bridge structure that was built in 1954 by the British. This has formerly been the lead gate to the source of Nile by tourists on Uganda safaris who take time to have a feel of the fresh white waters.
