2019 Twegaite International Convention
Twegaite International Convention unveils the 2019 Convention in concert with its partner chapter affiliate, New York / New Jersey Twegaite. Running from the 24th to 27th of May 2019 The empire state New York & the garden state New Jersey, USA will host the 2019 Biennial Twegaite International Convention and will be rolling out the carpet for the delegates at the prestigious Westin Hotel, 479 Washington Blvd Jersey City, NJ, 07310.
Twegaite was founded in New Jersey in 1998 as an organization of children of Busoga (a region in Eastern Uganda popular as the source of the Nile River and base for Jinja source of the Nile tours) and their friends in the Diaspora. Every two (2) years, friends of Busoga travel from all over the world to converge at the Twegaite Conventions. These biennial gatherings have long been heralded as exciting platforms at which culture is promoted, many network, meet old and new friends and celebrate their heritage, as we mobilize members and friends towards the social-economic development of Busoga and Uganda.
During the convention a vibrant youth programme will be held to bring together Ugandan youth with a range of exciting activities including, mentorship and inspirational programmes for youth to aspire to greater heights, cultural activities that will feature Ugandan dressing, training to prepare Ugandan food and a youth cultural competition.
Theme for the 2019 Twegaite International Convention
Theme: “A Bridge to the Future – Empowering Busoga And Beyond”
The idea is to link some of the foremost thinkers in the world today with civically-minded leaders in business, the arts, politics, sciences, humanities, and philanthropy to share ideas, raise challenging questions, and inspire thought to action.
“Imagine some of the most inspired and innovative thinkers, writers, artists, business people, teachers, and other leaders drawn from myriad fields and from across Uganda and around the world – gathered in a single place, ready to teach, speak, lead, question and answer – all interacting with an audience of thoughtful people who have stepped back from their day-to-day routines to delve deeply into a world of ideas, thought, and discussion” they wrote
Among other things, the theme is suggested to;
- seek to capitalize on the economic opportunities and challenges that we have/face and how we can better benefit/address them for the good of our people
- strengthen attention to priority social service programmes that contribute to improving the lives of our people
- Cultivate the interest and participation of our youth in the culture, economy and financial opportunities of their region. A youth forum is also planned around these issues.
Quin Abenakyo will be accepting Twegaite Achievement Award at the convention. Quin Abenakyo – who was crowned Miss World Africa at the 2018 Miss World finale in Sanya, China last December hails from Mayuge district in eastern Uganda (Busoga region) and is also the first Miss Uganda to make it to the top 5 finalists.
Twegaite International Organization is looking forward to fostering a mutual relationship with the reigning Miss Africa to continue supporting the Girl Child Education Initiative in Busoga region and the rest of Uganda.
This is the highest Twegaite award with past recipients being former Miss Uganda Leah Kalanguka, Racheal Magoola of Afrigo band, and Speaker Rebecca Kadaga.
Hailing from Uganda, with these conventions in the diaspora, many tourists who have come to Uganda testify to the fact that this is the friendliest nation in the continent of Africa. This is the reasons for the increased Uganda safaris, wildlife safaris in Uganda and birding tours in Uganda.
Whoever is in the diaspora and can attend this convention should please do that just to network with those from home-Uganda and the friends of the country as they have some fun.
